The following scenario will be familiar to you as well as to many of us: you have a mountain of different tasks on the table, and you have to be constantly dealing with issues for which there are actually also many specialized professionals, and you deal with that work only because it is willing to sacrifice the afternoon or weekend to meet deadlines. Telephone service can release a lot of work capacity, but when the whole organization basically revolves around you, it is very difficult to set limits. Probably there is a moment sooner or later when the idea of hiring additional employees lets you see the light at the end of the tunnel. But after spending time until you find some employees, you end up admitting that your personal situation has not changed much.

The additional staff will hardly alleviate, as long as they do not learn to delegate tasks on an ongoing basis. Still, it’s difficult for many of us. Think about if one of the following situations happens to you and read how you can learn not to hinder the delegation of tasks yourself. It will be appreciated by your company, your friends, your family and, not least, your employees.

 

1. MY STAFF IS NOT QUALIFIED ENOUGH TO ALLEVIATE MY WORKLOAD AND PRODUCE RESULTS, AS I MUST ALWAYS RECTIFY SOMETHING.

You are probably working under the motto “Only I can do that,” but this way of looking at leadership can not be maintained for long if you want your business to continue growing. Learn to invest time in the training of your staff and also look at what external training opportunities exist for such personnel. However, the most important thing is probably not to expect to find a perfect person for a job in the selection of personnel, but rather to gather the staff that really has the potential and willingness to develop, instead of spending time trying to form a person who was not suitable from the beginning.

2. WHEN I DELEGATE TASKS TO MY EMPLOYEES, THEY ASK ME TOO MANY QUESTIONS, SO IN THE END, I PREFER TO DO IT MYSELF.

Honestly, have you given your staff all the information they really need to complete the task? As a supervisor, you can easily forget that employees have not been present in many situations or discussions, or perhaps they do not have access to the most important data. Especially when the concept of sharing privileged information in your business is not unknown, so think about whether delegating more complex tasks is a good idea. Make sure your employees have at least the information necessary to complete tasks from the beginning.

 

3. OFTEN WHEN I DELEGATE TASKS TO MY EMPLOYEES, THEY PERFORM THEM PARTIALLY BECAUSE THEY ALWAYS DO NOT KNOW HOW TO CONTINUE AFTER A CERTAIN MOMENT.

Apparently, it has not provided the necessary faculties for the performance of the task. Before delegating, try to think about how to obtain an appropriate workflow and make sure everyone is informed that your employee is authorized to perform that specific task, such as making decisions or commissioning something externally.
